ABOUT THE ARTIST
If you are a fine art print collector, or own serigraphs from popular local artists such as Christian Lassen, Wyland, Tabola, or Lau Chun, chances are that you may already own one or more works by artist Albert Lowe. Albert has an established reputation among Hawaii’s arts community as “the artist for artists”. Throughout the 1990’s, he took many assignments to produce and/or enhance works for prominent local artists.
In 1990, Albert accepted a notable commission to create a high-relief, 48 foot “Tropical Scene” mural in a Waikiki hotel. This assignment had a challenging requirement: that it convey a Hawaiian “sense of place” while depicting neither palm trees nor Diamond Head crater! The resulting installation was declared by the client and architect to be so impressive, so aesthetically refreshing that the architect chose to amend his building plans to include wall-to-wall mirrors to reflect and extend the piece – embracing the work not as art hanging on a wall, but as an integral part of the architecture.
Albert Lowe was born in China in 1944. He studied Art and Design in Hong Kong and worked as designer & art director for the Hong Kong Hilton and Hyatt. He relocated to Honolulu in 1971 working for the Kahala Hilton as a graphic artist and designer. While with the Hilton, he created special works for celebrities including Prince Charles and President Nixon.
The enjoyment of life, including natural beauty, good food and music, is Albert’s inspiration. These passions are creatively expressed in his impressionistic paintings.
A highly trained artist in the classical, graphic and modern arts, Albert Lowe’s work displays a broad range of style and technique. Each unique piece combines his vivid imagination with years of appreciation and analysis of art genres and other artist’s works. His style shows a strong and free hand, and an adventurous approach to color. His contemporary pieces are alive with bold, vibrant hues, at once audacious and harmonious. At the same time, he has the flexibility of a professionally trained artist, which allows him to emulate other styles and other artists with exceptional ease, as the needs of the commission may require.
“Life is a celebration! As an artist, I take conceptual elements in
opposition and refine them, revealing an ultimate equilibrium that is still
yet dynamic. It is an ultimate pleasure when my art tells a story or evokes
an emotion.”
